Alexandria / Egypt
Alexandria has the greatest harbour in Egypt and is also a beautiful bathing resort at the delta of the Nile on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. With approx. 3,8 million residents it is, after Cairo, the 2nd largest city of the country. Today, three quarter of the egyptian export is traded via the harbour of Alexandria.
Alexandria features wide, 16-kilometer-long beaches along the coast. First-class fish restaurants and cafés invite for staying. Also the former wonder of the world, the 120-meter-high lighthouse of Pharos can be visited at the entrance of the harbour. On its former place, Fort Qaitbay, a marime museum is located. Worth seeing is as well the Greek-Roman Museum and the Amphitheatre Kom El Dik with the remains of the roman Amphi Theater. The catacombs of Kom El Shukafa is the largest Roman grave-system of Egypt. The necropolis of Anfushi with Greek rock-graves is also worth sightseeing.
