Among the objects of interest in and around Funchal is the flower, vegetable and fish market, Monte, where the tomb of the last Austrian Emperor Charles of Habsburg lies. The trip by basket sleigh from Monte to Livramento is just as recommendable as a visit to the botanic gardens.

Lisbon, natural harbor on the Tagus and near the Atlantic Ocean is the capital of Portugal and definitely worth the trip. The Mediterranean town has a slightly rough Atlantic climate and a distinctive charm.
Pinhão is located southeast of the city of Vila Real on the tributary of the river Douro. Pinhão is considered to be THE center of port wine cultivation, since the climate of the place is characterized by excellent climatic conditions. So most of the time it is rather quiet here until the autumn harvest starts. So it is not surprising that especially wine lovers in this city get their money's worth.

Venice is a city in the north-east of Italy, whose historical center is located on several islands in the lagoon of Venice. On the run from the Lombards, the population of the region retreated to the lagoon islands in the 6th century. An independent republic of the city was formed in the 11th century under the leadership of the Doge, and Venice, in the interests of its Oriental trade, began to subject the coasts of Istria and Dalmatia. During the Crusades, a Venetian colonial empire developed, which extended to Asia Minor. In the fifteenth century, Venice had 200,000 inhabitants and had a huge trade and war fleet. In the 17th century, the city was finally defeated by the Turkish power and in 1797 the state of Venice was abolished by French troops. In 1866 Venice became part of Italy.
The buildings of Venice have been built in the lagoon on millions of wooden piles, and the traffic takes place on 160 canals, especially the Grand Canal. The historical buildings of the city are constantly threatened by floods (Acqua Alta). On the St. Mark's Square the average water is about 100 days a year. A sluice system at the harbor entrances will protect the city from the recurring floods. Completion is scheduled for 2011. Venice is ranked 1st on the UNESCO list of protected cultural monuments in Europe.

Vila Real is the capital of a homonymous district and administrative center in the north of Portugal, at the foot of the Serra do Marão, on the banks of the Corgo. The city has about 50,000 inhabitants. The origins of the settlement date back to prehistoric times. After the occupation of the land by Celts and Moors, the inhabitants left the area. It was not until the 12th century that people came back and founded Vila Real de Panóias in 1289. In 1293 city rights were awarded. Agriculture, crafts and, of course, viticulture are important economic sectors of the city. In particular Vila Real is famous for its linen and black clay.
