The cruise line: half a century of cruise innovation
Individuality, freedom, flexibility and destinations around the world
Norwegian Cruise Line - a name that sounds like clear north, ice-blue sky and wild-romantic fjords. These associations are not wrong - even if they are fit far more for the Hurtigruten cruises.
The currently seventeen comfortable ships of the Norwegian Cruise Line travel around the world; between the icebergs in the north as well as under the southern sun. The destination areas include Alaska, Canada and New England, the Caribbean and the Bahamas, as well as Bermuda and Hawaii, the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, the Panama Canal and the Mexican Riviera and the coasts of South America. The Norwegian Cruise Line also offers classic Atlantic crossings with its transatlantic offers.
Norwegian Cruise Line - the concept of unlimited freedom
The absence of set meal times and strict dress regulations on board is one of the most prominent trademarks of the Norwegian Cruise Line. With this, the cruise line introduced in 2000 as one of the first providers on the cruise market a concept that found more and more followers.
This is also shown by the reviews in the forum of kreuzfahrten.de, in which users report their good experiences with Norwegian Cruise Line. “One of the reasons we chose Norwegian Cruise Line was that there are no set meal times here,” explains Heiko, for example. “Even though there were 3,700 passengers on board, we never had to look for or wait more than two to three minutes at all restaurants - great! With food: meat lovers gets their money's worth here, prepared in various ways. ”Of course, vegetarians can also indulge in culinary delights. Heiko also praises the "very friendly staff".
The German-language service on board is also very good, for example at the reception, during onboard announcements, on the menus and on many other occasions when German is used as the onboard language. “Very helpful, well-positioned staff, the cabin is also nice and big and clean,” raves Gabi, mid-forty, from Norwegian Epic.
On Norwegian Cruise Line, unlimited freedom does not just mean foregoing set meal times and a formal dress code. This concept should also encourage guests to follow their own rhythm instead of rigid onboard rules or constraints. Since Norwegian Cruise Line has more than 25 dining options of different dining styles aboard the entire fleet, as well as a colorful selection of first-class entertainment options, theaters, lounges and bars as well as leisure activities for all ages and interests, the personal development is unlimited freedom. The cruise line keeps its promise to grant all guests maximum individuality and freedom.
The history of the Norwegian Cruise Line reflects developments in the cruise market
The question of why Norwegian Cruise Line is an internationally operating cruise line is known as a Norwegian cruise line - even though its ships sail under the flag of the Bahamas and its headquarters are in Miami, Florida, can be answered easily: The Norwegian Cruise Line was Founded in 1966 by the Norwegian shipowner Knut Kloster. At that time it was called Norwegian Caribbean Lines and conquered the hearts of its guests with one-class cruises.
In 1996, the independent company Norwegian Cruise Line Ltd. emerged from the Klosters brand. In 2000 Star Cruises took over Norwegian Cruise Line, but Norwegian Cruise Line remained as a brand.
With Star Cruises' financial support behind it, the Norwegian Cruise Line develops its freestyle cruising concept, which was launched aboard Norwegian Sky with great success in May 2000, and is concentrating on expanding the fleet. In 2001, the two new ships, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Star, expanded the fleet, both ships are completely geared towards the new freestyle cruising concept, as does the Norwegian Dawn, which has been part of the fleet since 2002. The existing ships were also converted so that the increasingly popular freestyle cruising can be offered across the fleet.
Start into the new millennium with extensive fleet modernization
Another milestone from a German perspective was the introduction of a German-speaking guest service on selected routes in 2003. In 2004, a ship from the parent company Star Cruises, the SuperStar Leo, became a new cruiser of the Norwegian Cruise Line after extensive renovation work: the Norwegian Spirit. In the same year, the Norwegian Cruise Line also introduced an online booking engine, thanks to which travel agencies and tour operators can book and manage the Norwegian Cruise Line cruises via the Internet.
Between 2005 and 2009, as part of an extensive fleet modernization, some older ships with a total of around 8,000 beds left the fleet and were replaced by modern new ships. For example, the Norwegian Jewel built in Papenburg at the Meyer Werft shipyard, which has enriched the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet since August 2005 and which is the type ship of the Jewel class with around 294 meters long, 32 meters wide and around 93,500 GT.
Cruises for individualists
In 2006, the German-speaking guest service was expanded on all of European routes of the cruise line with the Norwegian Pearl, also built in Papenburg, another new ship was accepted as a member of the fleet. In 2007 the Norwegian Gem followed as the last ship of the successful Norwegian Jewel series built in Papenburg, to which belongs the Norwegian Jade, which sailed under the name Pride of Hawaii for Norwegian Cruise Line and has been part of the fleet since 2008. The Pride of Aloha is also part of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet after a renovation under the new name Norwegian Sky.
The "Freestyle 2.0" initiative was introduced by Norwegian Cruise Line at the end of 2007 and with it extensive investments throughout the entire fleet to further optimize the freestyle cruising concept - which is not without consequences. Because in October 2008 the Norwegian Cruise Line received the World Travel Award as "Europe's Leading Cruise Line" - a title that it has now received for the twelfth time in a row.
A real giant: The Norwegian Epic
The largest ship on the Norwegian Cruise Line until 2010 was put into service with the Norwegian Epic in June 2010. The ship built at the STX France shipyard went on its maiden voyage as the second largest cruise ship to date - after the Oasis of the Seas. The Norwegian Epic, which is almost 330 meters long and 40 meters wide, offers space for more than 4,100 passengers with around 156,000 GT.
In the same year, the Norwegian Cruise Line was named "Best Cruise Provider 2010" on oceans in a study by the German Institute for Service Quality, which was commissioned by the news channel n-tv.
On the road to success with the Breakaway classes
The Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway went into service in 2013 and 2014. The two approximately 324 m long ships of the new breakaway class built at Meyer Werft are particularly impressive with “The Waterfront”, such as the classic, wide promenade deck is called, which fits very well with the Norwegian Cruise Line concept. Finally, thanks to the “The Waterfront” promenade, eight dining options are linked to outdoor lounges.
In 2014, the Norwegian Cruise Line announced that it was expanding its commitment to environmental protection. This included the installation of 28 scrubbers for exhaust gas cleaning on six ships of the fleet.
Modern and even bigger - the Breakaway PLUS class
October 2015 saw the commissioning of the first ship of the Breakaway Plus class, the Norwegian Escape. In the summer of 2017, the Norwegian Joy (renovated in 2019) and the Norwegian Bliss in April 2018 followed. The fourth and thus newest ship in this class is the Norwegian Encore, which has been sailing in Alaska, Canada and New England, the Bahamas and Bermuda, as well as the Pacific coast since autumn 2019, sails in the Panama Canal and the Caribbean.
All four ships delight their guests with their diverse entertainment: Unique are, for example, a two-story go-kart track (Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Encore) or the Virtual Reality Wonderland Galaxy Pavilion.
Whether single or large family - suitable cabins for everyone!
Not just rooms, but studios, villas and penthouses
However you want to travel with the Norwegian Cruise Line, whether alone, with your partner, with your children or maybe even with your grandparents - you will always find the right offer thanks to the wide range of cabins on the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. Just let your taste decide or your wallet.
Singles book studios
Single travelers will feel particularly at home on Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss and the new Norwegian Encore, as well as on Norwegian Pride of America. Because aboard these ships there are perfect accommodations for you with the studios that are causing a sensation on the cruise market - despite a standard double bed without surcharges for single occupancy! The Norwegian Cruise Line studios are inside cabins and are located in a private area that can only be reached with a special key card and that also grants exclusive access to the Studio Lounge and Bar - first-class meeting points for singles who can socialize with a delicious cocktail.
Families have a choice
Whether inexpensive inside cabin or luxurious outside cabin - the Norwegian Cruise Line has a large offer for families, for example on the Norwegian Epic or the ships of the Breakaway as well as the Breakaway PLUS class. There are cost-saving inner cabins of around 12.5 to 14 square meters in size with two lower beds that can be converted into a queen-size bed and two additional upper beds. In addition, these cabins are usually family-friendly in the immediate vicinity of the kid's crew.
If you like it a bit bigger and love the sea view, we recommend a family balcony cabin. With a size of around 20 square meters, this cabin category gives families with children enough freedom, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead to the private balcony provide an airy feeling of space. The equipment is extremely family-friendly with two lower beds that can be converted into a queen-size bed and two additional comfortable beds, as is the proximity to the kid’s crew. For families or groups who also want more privacy, there are of course cabins with a connecting door - just ask the experts at kreuzfahrten.de.
Live high above the sea: suites, penthouses and garden villas
Who wouldn't want to have their own butler? For guests of the Norwegian Cruise Line, this wish is not so far-fetched: because if you book one of the suites, a penthouse or even a garden villa with great sea views, spacious balconies and verandas, inviting living areas and lavish bathrooms, you will be pampered all the way, not least with the excellent butler and concierge service. There are also numerous other highlights, for example the option of having breakfast or lunch in a private atmosphere and enjoying the cabin service with a special suite menu card.
On cloud nine: "The Haven"
Those who cannot or do not want to afford their own mega yacht, but are still looking for that little bit of luxury that makes the special something unique, will board Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Epic, the Norwegian Breakaway, the Norwegian Getaway, the Norwegian Gem, the Norwegian Jade, the Norwegian Jewel and the Norwegian Pearl happy. Because there is a kind of ship-in-ship alternative of the complex “The Haven by Norwegian”, which includes several exclusive suites. A private restaurant, a cocktail bar and a concierge lounge ensure that guests in the “The Haven” feel like on cloud nine. The courtyard area with a remarkable pool, a private sun deck, whirlpools, massage rooms, changing rooms, a sauna and much more serves as the center, which draws you away from the earth and makes you feel closer to heaven.
Of course, “The Haven” residents also benefit from a 24/7 service provided by butlers who have been trained and certified by the International Institute of Modern Butlers.
Food and drinks: up to nine dining options included
The pioneer of specialty restaurants
Norwegian Cruise Line was the first cruise line to introduce specialty restaurants aboard cruise ships in 2000, thereby revolutionizing the cruise market. Because good food, fine wines and excellent table service are among the elementary components of an all-round successful cruise. The Norwegian Cruise Line has therefore significantly expanded its range of international restaurants on all ships in the fleet over the past 20 years and, according to its own statement, has everything on board from tapas to teppanyaki, from steak to sushi, from Italian to French. However, it is almost unrivaled that up to nine - depending on the ship - excellent dining options are already included in the travel price and complement the attractive, fee based specialty restaurants with a tempting all-inclusive offer.
All inclusive: main, buffet and grill restaurants
In the morning, at noon, in the evening or in between - aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet you can choose at any time of the day from the main, buffet and grill restaurants already included in the travel price as well as cozy cafes and - without thinking about your wallet - enjoy it. The main restaurants such as The Manhattan Room, Aqua, Taste, Venetian, Grand Pacific, Summer Palace or Seven Seas, of which there are always at least two, are ideal for the classic, multi-course menu.
The buffet restaurants with tables both inside and outside with a great sea view have freshly prepared delicacies such as omelets, pasta dishes, salads and much more ready before your eyes. Casual barbecues in the pool area, 24-hour snack restaurants with small dishes for in between, Asian restaurants, sports bars, children's cafes and, last but not least, the 24-hour cabin service complete the offer, which does not incur any additional costs and should be almost unrivaled on the seven seas.
Specialty restaurants provide for special delicacies
There is something that connects all the ships of the Norwegian Cruise Line: the all-American steakhouse, the bistros with French haute cuisine and the authentic Italian trattorias, for example the new Onda by Scarpetta. Available on every ship, these locations have long been a trademark of the Norwegian Cruise Line. Just like the Cirque Dreams & Dinner Show, where acrobats entertain guests with their spectacular artistic interludes. The tricks of the top chefs, who prepare steaks, seafood, chicken and vegetables directly at the guests' table in the teppanyaki restaurants, are no less entertaining.
The specialty restaurants usually cost between $ 15 and $ 40 per guest, but children up to the age of 12 receive special children's menus completely free of charge at the specialty restaurants.
For clever connoisseurs: the specialty restaurant package
If you like to keep an overview of the costs, you will be happy with the specialty restaurant package, because then you can enjoy the variety of specialty restaurants at set prices. The package can be booked for a certain number of meals during the cruise, for example for three meals at a price of $ 99.
Leisure activities - freedom is also a must when it comes to entertainment
The more the better
Anyone who says that less is more does not yet know the Norwegian Cruise Line ships. Because the innovative ships of the Norwegian Cruise Line offer everything that makes a vacation at sea an unforgettable experience. In addition to the spacious swimming pools and whirlpools, the jogging tracks and sports decks with spectacular attractions such as climbing walls and high ropes courses, there are also unique stage shows, relaxing spa treatments and well-equipped casinos, so that varied activities and first-class entertainment for every taste can be found on board.
In the wellness oasis you understand spa
If you are surrounded by water all day, you might want to plunge into the waves at some point - this is not a problem on the ships of the Norwegian Cruise Line. Because aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet there are well-maintained swimming pools for young and old, and for sun lovers there are generously designed sun decks with a sufficient number of sun loungers and specially designated relaxation areas. The whirlpools, where you can relax with a glass of champagne in your hand, are ready for the casual leisure hour.
And lovers of wellness oases will also get their money's worth with the Norwegian Cruise Line: With the Mandara Spa, every ship of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet has an extremely spacious luxury-class spa area, where there are exclusive offers of selected treatments.
The guests of “The Haven by Norwegian” also enjoy the private courtyard with an exclusive pool. Guests traveling with the Norwegian Encore will be thrilled by the tandem water slide in the Aqua Park. But the Breakaway class ships also await you with excellent pool facilities.
And if grown-ups want to stay among like minded, then they to the Vibe Beach Club or the Spice H2O pool area, because these are reserved for adults.
A colorful bouquet of challenging leisure activities
There are so many ways to make the most beautiful time of the year challenging aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line ships that during a cruise no sea day will be the same if you wish. Regardless of whether you want to climb or go for a wine tasting, take a yoga class or go shopping in the Duty Free Shop for your loved ones at home - the extensive equipment on board and the unique concept make it possible.
In addition to climbing walls that allow a breathtaking view of the sea and the multifunctional fields for different sports, the bowling alleys, golf tee nets, table tennis tables and the playing fields for outdoor chess and shuffleboard, there is a great high ropes course aboard the Norwegian Getaway and the Norwegian Escape, for example with different levels of difficulty.
If you still don't have enough adrenaline flowing in your veins, you can venture onto the plank, The Plank: it protrudes about 2.5 meters over the edge of the ship and can only be entered, of course, with the best security. You can also test the abseiling wall and climbing nets, the bungee trampoline and the gyroscope aboard the Norwegian Epic. The newer ships of the Breakaway Plus class provide further highlights in the entertainment area: master tight curves at high speed on the go-kart track or experience grandiose adventures in the Laser Tag system, which is reminiscent of the lost city of Atlantis.
The creative minds among the adventurers then try improvisation theater courses with the professionals from The Second City or cooking courses that are as informative as they are appetizing. Video gamers, in turn, will appreciate the Wii tournaments on big screens, while the drinking festivals set off for a wine or martini tasting. And since you are traveling from one fascinating destination to the next with a cruise ship, there are appropriate destination area lectures on board that convey interesting facts about the country and culture. If you also always wanted to know how a cruise ship works, you will find the answers during the onboard tour with the meaningful name "Behind the scenes", where the crew from the bridge over the laundries, the galley, the backstage area of the theater until the environmental protection systems show everything.
Top level entertainment
Most cruise lines offer top-notch entertainment; AIDA Cruises and the Norwegian Cruise Line are particularly outstanding in this area. One might think that the entertainers on board had extended Broadway on oceans. The highlights on board include opulently equipped shows as well as well-known musicals and dance shows.
Also suitable for Broadway is the piano performance Howl at the Moon. The focus of this four-hour show - in which the guests are often asked as entertainers to support the two pianists – have been chart breakers during the past 50 years. Regardless of which Norwegian Cruise Line ship you are on, you will experience energetic productions with fantastic music, imaginative costumes, spectacular dance numbers and breathtaking special effects that will delight you everywhere on board.
Even if the smoothly running engines of the fleet do not cause any vibrations, you will feel how the deck vibrates in the evenings - because there is exhilarating music everywhere, from piano sounds to rousing beats of Caribbean reggae. Singing along and clapping is the order of the day. Humor is not neglected either, because the comedy shows of the Norwegian Cruise Line will strain your smiley muscles.
As the crowning glory of a great cruise, a big fireworks display with musical accompaniment awaits.
Cruise classics - the bars and lounges
The professionals at the Norwegian Cruise Line know that an eventful day also requires an eventful conclusion. That is why the up to 22 bars, lounges and clubs on the ships of the fleet are designed to create the right ambience at end the day - depending on your taste - relaxed or energetic.
There are champagne bars, whiskey bars, sports bars and also outdoor bars, as well as the hip or classic dance floor, for example in the Spinnaker Lounge, which turns into a chic nightclub at a late hour.
If you prefer to swing the bowling ball instead of the dance leg and want to achieve one strike after the other, you will be happy at the trendy Bliss Ultra Lounge, where modern design, trendy-plush furnishings and atmospheric illuminated bowling alleys enable a game of bowling in cooperation with the stabilizers of the ship on oceans.
A highlight aboard the Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway is the SVEDKA Ice Bar, in which not only the drinks are cooled with ice, but the guests too: the entire facility is made of ice - so that it doesn't melt, there is a temperature of -8 degrees!
Families with children are in good hands with the NorwegianCruise Line
The freestyle cruising concept gives families great freedom
The Norwegian Cruise Line is undoubtedly one of the cruise lines that are particularly suitable for families with children. Last but not least, the attractive offers for family cabins and, above all, the concept, which gives families a particularly large freedom and enables every family member from baby to toddler, teenager and parents to grandparents to have a varied cruise. For example, there is a large selection of children's and youth programs so that parents can relax by the pool or in the spa area. The Norwegian Cruise Line's toddler policy allows you to travel with children who are only 6 months old. However, this does not apply to cruises with three consecutive days at sea, because on such cruises children must be at least 12 months old. In addition, children under the age of three must be supervised by their parents.
For children and teenagers: the Splash Academy and Entourage
Splash Academy and Entourage - that is the name of the free children's and youth programs aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, with which the professionally trained staff looks after your children in age-appropriate activities in a safe environment.
For sociable and open-minded children between the ages of six months and twelve years, the Splash Academy is the best area, for example, to take part in a sports competition, to do creative work or just to play Wii. Divided into four age groups - the guppies (6 months - under 3 years), the turtles (3 - 5 years), the seals (6 - 9 years) and the dolphins (10 - 12 years) - the kids will always find something suitable for them.
The ideal program for teens between the ages of 13 and 17 is entourage, in which theater or fashion workshops, soccer games and pool parties do not let boredom arise. In the teen center, the teens also have plenty of hip slot machines, a PlayStation and games like air hockey and pinball. And of course the young crusaders can also rock out to the beats of a jukebox.
Relaxed parents: group care for children
Even in the evening and when the ships are in port, the professionally trained supervisory staff of the Norwegian Cruise Line offers group childcare for children between the ages of three and twelve on the premises of the Kid's Crew. So if you want to have some time for yourself, just let the children and youth workers of the Norwegian Cruise Line supervise your little ones during sea days and even outside of meal times at no extra cost. Even if you are planning a romantic dinner for two at a late hour, professional childcare is available to you with the Late Night Fun Zone, which is open every evening between 10:30 and 1:30 .
Shore excursions - uncovering destination secrets
Perfectly organized, cost-effectively calculated
There is a simple but good reason why the shore excursions organized by the Norwegian Cruise Line are highly recommended: since the experts of the Norwegian Cruise Line take over the entire organization for unforgettable experiences on land, you do not have to worry about anything - the best conditions for a relaxing and exciting cruise with inexpensive and perfectly organized shore excursions. On most cruises, the Norwegian Cruise Line also offers, depending on the number of participants, shore excursions with a German-speaking tour guide. Irrespective of this, the Norwegian Cruise Line has a very large range of shore excursions for you in every port of call, which - depending on your preference - offer action, knowledge and sights or culinary highlights. Whether an adventure tour or sightseeing - the experienced Norwegian Cruise Line shore excursion team will be happy to help you find the right excursions.
All from a single source
In every port, the Norwegian Cruise Line offers you everything from a single source, as it works on site with well-known tour operators who are officially recognized and insured and, above all, know all the secrets of the destinations very well and offer you great experiences. In addition, you benefit from expert advice, comfortable booking from home, the possibility of uncomplicated payment and, last but not least, the greatest possible security and reliability. Because the Norwegian Cruise Line picks you up directly and comfortably from the ship and brings you back there exactly on time. Of course, you don't have to worry about anything in the event of an unexpected route change, because the Norwegian Cruise Line shore excursion team will be happy to suggest worthwhile alternatives.
It is particularly advisable to book in advance online or by phone two days before the start of the cruise, since the most popular shore excursions are of course booked up very quickly. In addition, pre-reserved shore excursions are sometimes even cheaper than booking on board, and you also save yourself queuing at the shore excursion desk. You will find your pre-booked tickets in your cabin when you start your cruise, which means you have more valuable vacation time to enjoy the essentials of your trip. And you don't have to worry about hidden fees, because entry fees and transfer costs, unless otherwise stated, are of course already included when booking via the Norwegian Cruise Line.
Specials and service
German speaking guest service
Since the Norwegian Cruise Line is very popular with German travelers, the cruise line offers various services in German. This includes German-speaking employees in the different areas of the ship, daily programs, menus and digital signage in German, as well as German-language television stations. Several shore excursions in German await you on a European cruise, on all other routes there is an excursion with a German-speaking guide.
Dress code on board
Since the guests aboard a cruise ship of the Norwegian Cruise Line should feel at home, a strict dress code was abolished with the introduction of the freestyle cruising concept. However, a sporty, elegant wardrobe, with which women and men are appropriately dressed for all areas of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, is welcome. And of course it can be festive aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line ships, for example there is a selected restaurant with a more formal atmosphere on each ship.
To the port of marriage with the Norwegian Cruise Line: weddings on board
The Norwegian Cruise Line will be happy to fulfill your dream of a wedding at sea. The entire coordination is carried out by the cruise line, starting with ceremonies, a wedding performed by the captain himself and the legal recognition of the wedding documents in Germany.
Everything that couples want to make their wedding an unforgettable experience is included in the wedding package “Wedding at Sea”. Whether a bridal bouquet and a matching brooch for the groom, champagne reception or wedding cake - an experienced wedding planner from the Norwegian Cruise Line will help the couple with the organization before the start of the cruise and will arrange everything.
But it is not only possible to get married aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line also enables various ceremonies in the ports that the ships call at.
The “Destination Ceremony” wedding package is ideally suited for this, so that nothing stands in the way of a romantic as well as family celebration - for example on Santorini or Maui. Same-sex couples can be married in places where same-sex marriage is permitted.
For married couples who have their weddings in good memory and want to renew their wedding vows at sea, the Norwegian Cruise Line offers the "Vow Renewal Package", in which the wedding vows are confirmed in the presence of an officer. Red roses, champagne, a cake for two, a vow certificate and a framed professional portrait, as well as canapés and chocolate-covered strawberries in the evening in the cabin make your stay in the port of marriage more pleasant.
Internet access and use of mobile phones
Connections to the mainland enable modern satellite phones, faxes can also be sent for a fee. There is a central telephone number for all ships, under which passengers can be reached after specifying the name of the ship, the cabin number and their own name.
You can use your own cell phone via an ocean mobile radio service, billing is carried out by your cell phone provider. Since the Norwegian Cruise Line also offers WIWI around the clock on all ships and thus wireless Internet access in public areas and generally also in the cabins, you can surf the Internet with your notebook, tablet PC or smartphone and check emails. In addition, all ships have internet cafes. The minute prices for using the Internet are around one dollar, which is why the package solutions that are also offered are usually cheaper.
Smokers stay outside
Even if the Norwegian Cruise Line concept enables the greatest possible degree of individuality, it does not allow smokers more freedom than at other cruise lines. With the Norwegian Cruise Line, too, most public areas must remain smoke-free, as must the cabins and their balconies. However, smoking is allowed in the casinos of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, but only for active players.
Aboard the Norwegian Getaway and the Norwegian Breakaway, smoking is only permitted on the starboard side in the area of the promenade "The Waterfront", but not in the outside areas of the adjacent restaurants. Regular electronic cigarettes may only be used in designated areas and not in the other public areas. So the cigarette, pipe and cigar smokers only have the way to the cigar bar, to another appropriately designated bar or to the designated outside areas.
Onboard account
The onboard currency of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet is the US dollar. However, you do not need to carry cash aboard a cruise ship belonging to the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, because an on-board account will be opened for you upon embarkation and after reviewing the onboard manifest you completed on site or in advance online. For this purpose, you store your credit card details, for example, so that all expenses can be settled cashless and you only have to show your boarding card with every purchase you make on board and sign the invoice with your name and cabin number.
